Whizzy Wednesday Artists

Monday, 25 September 2017

The Whizzy Wednesday Art club has thoroughly enjoyed exploring  different artistic techniques and art media every week. All these techniques will be used to put together a surprise piece of artwork at the end of the term. So far, we have experimented with marble ink, watercolour and most recently pointillism. Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Next, we will be working with a mixture of acrylic paints and sand to create a more textured finish. All the elements of our final masterpiece are coming together very nicely…

4T travel through the digestive system!

Monday, 25 September 2017

4T have been learning all about the functions, and location, of the basic parts of the digestive system. It all got very messy in our classroom as we had the chance to create our own practical demonstration of the journey of food through the body. We all got very inventive when creating our models. Pairs of tights played the part of the large intestine, a sandwich bag acted as the stomach and washing up liquid came in handy for the bile.

Building on our new scientific knowledge, we were then able to write a fictional recount of a journey through the digestive system. It all started when we shrank to miniature versions of ourselves and found ourselves on an apple in Miss Taylor’s lunch box! Come to our classroom if you want to read all about our unbelievable adventures!

Class 2T

Friday, 22 September 2017

This week we have been continuing our learning all about the Great Fire of London. We made a timeline in our History lesson to show the main events of the Great Fire. We also felt so inspired by our learning theme that we wrote some amazing setting descriptions about the time of the fire. In Maths we have been working hard on place value and are using ‘chips and peas’ to help us partition numbers in to tens and ones. We have also started to practise for the harvest service and can’t wait to perform in church.

Our week in year 5

Wednesday, 20 September 2017

In year 5 this week, we have been studying the Ancient Maya.  We used the Maya number system to solve some different problems and learnt about how they were one of the first civilizations to use the number zero.  We also looked at their language and used Mayan runes to write our names!

In science this week we explored chemical reactions. We used baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to see how different reactions took place and looked at what was produced during these reactions. When bicarbonate of soda and vinegar reacted, they produced some gas which was able to blow up a rubber glove!

4T rediscover the wonders of Ancient Egypt!

Saturday, 16 September 2017

4T are very excited about their new topic all about the Ancient Egyptians. For our sparkly start we took a virtual tour through the tombs and pyramids of Ancient Egypt. We explored secret passageways and the burial chambers of the great pharaohs. We even found some intricate wall paintings featuring mysterious hieroglyphs, gods and goddesses. Getting into the role of historian, we also examined a number of Ancient Egyptian sources to find out what they could tell us about how this magnificent civilisation lived. We looked closely at the unique style in which they drew people in their artwork; finding it great fun  trying to copy their poses with our face and feet side profile whilst at the same time having our body faced straight on!

In RE, we have been learning all about the importance of Sewa in the Sikh faith. This is all about voluntary service to the community so we set about the school offering a helping hand to all classes and teachers. Miss Eggleton was extremely thankful for our sharpening services and Mr Lee was grateful for getting a newly tidied and dusted reading area!

Problem Solving Day

Friday, 15 September 2017

Today we did many problem solving puzzles. The hardest of which was Einstein’s riddle which was a challenging logic puzzle that required much perseverance. We engaged in many other mind boggling puzzles throughout the day including a maths trail around the school where we had to hunt down the clues to solve the problems.

Friday, 8 September 2017

Hello,

We are the new Class 2T and we are very excited about being in Year 2. This week we have been settling in to our new classroom and we have been having lots of fun so far. We drew our own self portraits in Art, have been practising different spellings and were solving lots of different problems in maths today. We have also been making a dance sequence to show the events of the Great Fire of London which is our topic for this half term. We can’t wait to continue our learning next week!

4T- Our learning this term

Monday, 3 July 2017

4T  are really enjoying their topic ‘Which animals and plants thrive in our local environment?’ Indeed, this topic has given us many exciting learning opportunities to take part in.

In English, we wrote nature inspired Haiku poems. We also each wrote a Haiku based on the theme of books and sent these into Kenilworth Books as part of a competition. We can’t wait to see if ours got displayed! We have also written our own twisted traditional tales based on Roald Dahl’s ‘Revolting Rhymes’. We have just finished writing up our neatest versions, some of which are going to be displayed in Kenilworth Books too. So pop in and take a look in a couple of weeks time!

In Art, we were inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. We looked at her ‘close-up’ flowers and the colours she uses to make them appear most attractive. We then used this inspiration to create  flowers using layered tissue paper and PVA glue. They look beautiful on our classroom display. In DT, we designed and created our own bird feeders based on strict success criteria! Some were more successful than others!

As part of our topic, we embarked  upon an exploration of the wildlife in Abbey Fields. We drew  plants using continuous line drawing and we also had to sketch from memory (which proved very challenging!) The park ranger led us on a super trail to find and identify living creatures in the local area.

Thank you for reading all about just some of our fabulous learning this term!

~~3T Swimming~~

Thursday, 8 June 2017

This week, we went swimming for our second lesson. In the shallow end they used floating noodles and put one foot on the floor and kicked with the other foot. At the middle section,  they used floats and also did some front crawl this is where you have to bring your arms over your head and kick your legs. In the deep end they started doing front crawl for a couple of lengths. After, they did push and glide, then they climbed out the pool and they pencil jumped into the pool. They also did another type of jump where they had to try and keep their heads out of the water.

Can’t wait for more swimming next week 🙂

Question the Classes: Online Safety

Tuesday, 6 June 2017

In online safety club before half-term we discussed plagiarism and copyright, and shared with you (in class) what they were and why we shouldn’t do them. This week we have decided to see what you have remembered with two questions. Please comment as a class in response to each question, justifying your answer:

Question 1: Can I use any picture I like in my work?

Question 2: Can I copy and paste sentences or words from the internet and put it into my work?

Thanks!
