We have had a great half term in 3T learning all about Greece and the Ancient Greeks. We particularly enjoyed visiting Ego restaurant to taste and make traditional Greek dishes and we also had a great time using the coiling technique to make our very own Ancient Greek  inspired clay pots. In History, we acted as real historians, looking at Ancient Greek clay pottery designs to see if we could find any clues about how they lived. In Literacy, after reading a selection of Greek myths, we created our very own picture books featuring our own Greek hero and mythical creatures. We shared these picture books with the whole of year 3 one afternoon. Inspired by the Greek invented Olympics, we also challenged ourselves to see how far we could run in the world record time for the 100m sprint. We used the data we collected to create our own bar charts in Maths.

Here is our reflection event poster showcasing some of the fantastic writing we have done for each of our learning challenges.  We hope you like it!

4P’s mysterious English work

Tuesday, 15 December 2015

In 4P, we have been learning about The Animals of Farthing Wood. In the story, a character called Mr Burton thought he saw some mysterious lurking shadowy figures next to his brand new, posh swimming pool late at night. He thought no more about it and went to bed, but in the morning he noticed footprints around the pool and the water was dirty!

We had to try to work out who the shadowy figures were, who the footprints belonged to, and why the swimming pool was grubby. We thought long and hard about who it could have been (our ideas ranged from monsters to aliens to Mrs Burton!) and then we drew a picture to show what Mr Burton might have seen if he’d stayed watching at his window. Some examples are below.

Using our pictures, we then planned and wrote stories about the mysterious event that happened at the swimming pool during the night time. Some examples of our writing are below.

Christmas time in Reception

Tuesday, 15 December 2015

In Reception we have been enjoying lots of Christmas activities:

  • We went on our first school trip to choose a Christmas tree from Brook Farm
  • Writing and decorating Christmas cards
  • Playing in our Winter Wonderland role-play
  • Making paper snowflakes- practising our cutting skills
  • We had a great time performing ‘A Wriggly Nativity’ as part of our EYFS Christmas show
  • Reading Christmas stories and learning all about Christmas around the world

In the last week of term we have got lots to look forward to:

  • Christmas craft day
  • Christmas disco
  • Christmas lunch
  • non-uniform and bring a toy to school day.

It has been a busy but wonderful first term. The children have really grown in confidence and independence and have all improved dramatically since starting in Reception.

We hope you have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Tim Peake: Live Launch

Tuesday, 15 December 2015

This morning, Year 4 eagerly darted into the classroom to watch the amazing launch of Tim Peake  into space. He was going to the International Space Station to further our scientific understanding.

Rapidly, the huge rocket ejected from the colossal launch pad and thrusted up into the atmosphere. It looked as if fire balls were being propelled towards the smoke covered Earth.

We watched Tim inside the rocket being shaken vigorously as if it was getting friction burns. Inside, there was a dangling rod that floated when they reached zero gravity. Cramped, squashed and squeezed as if he was in a cocoon, Tim laid on his back.

It was astonishing!

This week in 5E

Friday, 11 December 2015

Hi this is 5E, this week in Maths we have been learning about cube numbers the lesson made us feel confident with them.

Also we have been practising our Christmas play and improving it by looking at the audience, keeping our chairs still and singing loudly. We hope you can come to see it and enjoy it. We are!

As well as this, we have seen KS1 performance, it was amazing! We really enjoyed the amount of effort they put in!

This week in English we were writing about what Bob and the Aliens were thinking in a story.

Thank you for reading this, from 5E!

Year 1

Wednesday, 9 December 2015

This term we have been learning about animals and their habitats. We had a fabulous trip to Twycross Zoo. Our favourite animals were the giraffes and elephants because the elephants squirted water out of their trunks. We were very lucky to meet Sherbet this term, Miss Williams’s pet rabbit. We learnt that rabbits like to eat vegetables and Sherbet really liked carrots.

Some of our fantastic learning this term included habitats and how animals have adapted to their homes. We learnt that Polar bears live in a cold, wintery and arctic habitat. They have adapted to their environment by having warm fur that allows them to swim in icy water and white fur to camouflage them into the snow.

We are really looking forward to our school play and we have been rehearsing our songs and lines ready to impress all of our grown-ups and teachers.
