Reception- Easter

Friday, 18 March 2016

We have had a really busy week in Reception this week…

In Literacy this week we have been learning all about Spring and Easter. We read the Easter story and spoke about religions that celebrate Easter and why they celebrate it. We also went on an Easter egg hunt and made Easter cards for our family.

In Maths this week we have been recapping subtraction. We spoke about what it means when we take away and what happens to the number. We learnt how to use mental strategies – counting back, practical strategies and practised counting back using a number line.

Some children from RF were rehearsing for St. John’s got Talent show and their hard work paid off because they won! Congratulations to the wonderful children who took part, you were all fantastic!

After the talent show we enjoyed our fabulous finish to this terms topic Modern Britain with an afternoon tea party for our family. We prepared cucumber and cheese sandwiches, chocolate Easter nest cakes and scones with jam and cream. We had a wonderful time and were so pleased that so many parents and friends came to join us for our special tea party. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Wishing everyone a very happy Easter!

In Year 2, our topic is helping us to understand some of the British Values. We have been learning about Democracy. As part of this we have learnt about The Royal Family and the important job of the Prime Minister.

This week Mrs Salisbury brought in some books from her parent’s loft! They were very special and we had to be careful. It was amazing to look at books about The Crown Jewels, The Royal Family dating back to 1953.

Year 1’s royal term.

Friday, 11 March 2016

This term we have been learning about the Queen. After receiving a fantastic letter from the Queen, we wrote some of our own letters back and asked some questions and we hope to get a reply soon. We have been very creative this term and designed our own knickers for the Queen, attempted to create portraits and worked really hard on devising a soldier dance. We are currently creating some cute, corgi, carriers for the Queen’s lovely dogs. We look forward greatly to sharing some of our knowledge about the royal family with our own families at home.

Reception- All about me

Friday, 4 March 2016

In Literacy this week we have been looking at what makes us special. Throughout the week we have been discussing what makes us happy, the different feelings we feel, looking at our body parts and their names, our five senses and how our families are unique. The children then completed an ‘all about me’ poster.

In Maths this week we have been learning about length and how we can measure various lengths. We have been measuring using non standard units and also looked at measuring using standard units. We measured different sized caterpillars and recorded the lengths of each one, using the vocabulary- longest and shortest.

In cooking this week we made vegetable egg fried rice. All the children enjoyed it together on the carpet and most children ask for a second helping because it was so tasty.

This week we also made an edible tea cup, decorated 3D boxes to hold the tea cup and beautiful cards for Mother’s day. The children told us why they love their mummy and then gave a daffodil to their mummy at hometime.

We hope all our lovely mums have a wonderful Mother’s day- you deserve it!

Busy Week In 3CT

Friday, 4 March 2016

On Tuesday we made chocolate tray bake because we had been learning about Fairtrade and most Dairy milk chocolate is Fairtrade. We have also been developing our Measuring skills in maths and we used these to help us weigh the ingredients. We have also been measuring tables and various rooms in school. We discovered that the out of school club table was the BIGGEST table in school.
We wrote a formal letter to Cadbury World because we wanted to know why not all of their Dairy Milk products are Fairtrade. Mrs Tennant is sending them this weekend. We are looking forward to their response.
Also this week we have had World Book Day where we came to school in our PJs, brought a teddy and a book. We then shared our bedtime stories with each other. In Assembly we did a World Book Day quiz. The Yellow House was the winner as they won 400 House points! WOW!
