This week in 5E!

Friday, 30 September 2016

What a busy week it’s been in 5E. It seems like we haven’t stopped! We’ve been focusing a lot on writing this week and the children have created some fantastic Viking adventure stories!IMG_0948[1]

In maths we’ve also been looking at Roman numerals. We tried to convert the dates in a timeline from the digits we use today to Roman numerals. Some of them were really tricky.

As well as all this, we have been practising for harvest and can’t wait to show you what we have created next Thursday.

Here’s to another fabulous week,

Class 2T

Friday, 30 September 2016

This week in Class 2T we have been learning a Harvest poem ready to perform at our Harvest assembly. To help us remember, we thought of lots of different actions to match the words in the poem. Then we decided to have a go at writing our own Harvest poetry. Come along to the KS1 Harvest assembly to hear some of our wonderful poems.

Reception had a busy last week with the start of our new topic Up Up and Away! Our role play area was made into a spaceship for children to use and different parts of our classroom were adapted to fit the topic, including alien slime in the water area, space themed playdough and aliens hidden in the sand tray to find.

In literacy we were focussing on the book ‘Welcome to Alien School’ and in particular looking at the structure of the story, the description and imagery of the alien characters and making comparisons between ‘Alien School’ and St Johns. We then had a go at drawing our own aliens to put on display. There were some fantastic creations!

In numeracy we were looking at different patterns, using colour, 2d shapes and numbers. We each had our own alien worksheet and completed the alien’s tricky patterns.

We have lots more fun learning to do as the topic progresses and we’ll keep you updated!

1S Jungle Safari

Monday, 19 September 2016

Last week we started our new topic ‘Why can’t meerkats live in the North Pole?’. As part of our brilliant beginning we had our very own jungle safari through the school. We had binoculars to help us spot any animals lurking in the corridors. We also used clipboards to keep track of the animals that we had found. We had a great time being jungle explorers!
