Reception- Chinese New Year, Shrove Tuesday & The Gingerbread Man

It has been a busy week in Reception!

We started off the week by celebrating Chinese New Year and learning all about the story of the zodiac and watching videos on CBeebies ‘Let’s Celebrate’ where Abbie and her brother prepare for Chinese New Year. We had fun making Chinese Stir-fry, eating with chopsticks, making dragon masks and learning numbers 1-10 in Chinese- we even had a go at writing them.

We also enjoyed Shrove Tuesday. We went up to the big kitchen and made our own pancakes. We had three different stations:

1. A cooking station

2. A flipping station

3. A tasting  station

We had lots of fun and everyone had a go at flipping the pancakes.

From Wednesday onwards we read the story of The Gingerbread Man. We talked about the characters , sequenced the story using the character cut outs and wrote captions to go with the story. On Friday we found a note from The Gingerbread Man, he said that he had left clues around school, so we went on a Gingerbread Man hunt looking for the clues. When we got to the last clue we found The Gingerbread Man and he had got some yummy treats for us, we enjoyed them altogether with some milk… thank you Gingerbread Man!

We hope your half term holiday is as fun as our week in Reception.
