This week in 4T

Thursday, 7 December 2017

Alongside practising for our upcoming Christmas performance (which is set to be fantastic) 4T have been getting musically creative in the classroom too. As part of our learning about Ernest Shackleton’s perilous voyage across the Antarctic, we composed our very own soundscapes. Inspired by the magnificent Endurance (Shackleton’s ship), the icy landscape and the many dogs on board, we used a range of instruments to recreate what might have been heard and experienced by the courageous crew. Our drums were certainly a popular choice!

Great News! Thanks to the brilliant pieces of art produced by Key Stage 2, St John’s was voted  best primary school at the recent Rotary Art Show in Kenilworth. This is the second time running that we have been voted  best primary school at the show so we are all very pleased! Kenilworth Art Exhibition

Friday, 24 November 2017

It  has been an exciting week for our avid artists at St John’s, as Key Stage 2 were given the fantastic opportunity to exhibit their artistic talent at the Kenilworth Art Show. We decided to use marbling ink to create some pieces that would really catch visitors’ eyes. Congratulations to Bradley and Sophie from 6L and Phoebe from 4T as they can now say that their art work has been exhibited alongside the work of paid artists! As only four of the excellent pieces Key Stage 2 created could be displayed, the fourth piece combined more than one child’s eye-catching marbling work. The artwork will be on display at the Kenilworth Holiday Inn from Friday 24th November to Sunday 26th November so why not have a look!

5C – More math work!

Wednesday, 22 November 2017

This week, in 5C, we have done even more maths work. This time, we have been multiplying and diving numbers by 10, 100 and even 1000! At first, we bursted through easy questions such as 53 x 10 = 530, but then it got harder, and some answers included decimal numbers, such as 56 ÷ 10 = 5.6! We still completed most problems, though.

This half term in 5s

Wednesday, 22 November 2017

At the start of half term in 5’s we started to learn all about the rainforest.During half term we learnt about the rainforests and did some research into the animals that live there. Before we fully left our topic on the Ancient Maya we had a class assembly about chocalate and the Maya. In maths we have learnt about squaring and cubing numbers and powers of 10. Last week, a lady from Zoolab came and showed us some amazing animals from rainforests. We learnt all about the animals that live there. One of our favorite animals was Cornflake, he was a Corn snake. We are looking forward to our next topic.

5C’s Math Work

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

This week in 5C, we have been doing some tricky maths work.

First, we looked at doing hard multiplication problems using partitioning. Some of them were tricky, such as 23×8, and we  even 3-digit problems, like 352×7! But we all figured them out in the end.

After break, we took a look at square numbers. We found out they were the product of a number multiplied by itself. We found square numbersw up to 144, but then it got tricky, as in  the end we were doing 18 squared minus 17 squared!

This half term in 3b

Wednesday, 8 November 2017

We have been learning about forces and magnets in science.  For our sparkly start we played with some magnets and forces and did some experiments to see what would happen. We managed to figure out that the red and blue sides of the magnets stick together.  Also, we used different forces to make some cotton wool move, without actually touching it!

In knowledge and understanding we have been learning about the Victorians.  For our sparkly start, we played with some victorian toys, such as ludo and tiddlywinks, it was really fun! It has been a really good start to this half term, we can’t wait to learn more!

5C’s Class Assembly and Chocolate Factory Experience

Wednesday, 8 November 2017

Before the half-term holidays, 5C have had a very busy week. We had our class assembly, AND we went to Cadbury’s World in Birmingham!

Class Assembly: Our class assembly was all about Chocolate and the Maya. It followed a quiz show called ‘Are you smater than a 9 Year Old?‘ and featured funny roleplays. We all enjoyed it, and so did the parents!

Cadbury’s World: The day after our class assembly, we went to Cadbury’s world. First we had a prep talk about the Cadbury’s chocolate, cocoa and the Maya. We then followed lots of expeditions throughout the factory. It  was amazing!

Online Safety Club

Tuesday, 31 October 2017

This week in online safety club, we have been discussing what to do if we get our early warning signs whilst we are online. We talked about talking to a trusted adult and how to report something inappropriate or offensive.  We also discussed the importance of not immediately deleting something that has given us our early warning signs, but showing it to a trusted adult first.

This week in 3B

Friday, 13 October 2017

This week in 3B we have been doing some exciting art and music. In Art, we created Stonehenge artwork. We created a sunset background using orange, yellow and red paint. Then we used black paper to create an outline of Stonehenge. It was really fun and we all created some lovely pieces of work. In Music we have been learning to play the Flintstones theme tune on the xylophones. We have been reading the musical notes and then trying to play them. It has been quite tricky but we are improving each time.
