A big welcome to Reception Class.
We are taught by Miss Kerry and supported by Teaching Assistants Mrs Powell and Mrs Crowe.
Reception is part of the Foundation Years 0-5 curriculum. You can find details on the curriculum on the Foundation Years website (external link).
When the children come into Reception we like them to settle in and become familiar with their new surroundings and routines. Once this has happened the Reception Staff make informal assessments known as baseline assessments about where they children are at according to the development matters document in the new curriculum. This enables them to start to plan appropriate activities according to the children's needs.
In Reception we like to get a balance between adult-focused activities and independent focused activities. The staff are making observations all the time and this enables us to pitch activities accordingly.
In Reception we start to learn phonics and have a daily phonics session. You can find out more about phonics in the Letters and Sounds Booklet (pdf) from the DFE.
Lots of learning takes place through play and lots of opportunities for language development are given in side and outside. The staff also move the children on with their reading, writing and mathematical development.
The staff are very friendly and we know the children will be well looked after and make good progress during their year with us.
